How to Style Curly Hair

Sometimes it's tough to decide how to style curly hair. No matter the exact texture of your locks, curls can be both a blessing and a curse. Although it may seem at times to be more a curse than the former description, there are ways to work with it to make it the best thing that ever happened to you. You'll be surprised what you can do.First of all, figure out if your texture is more in the region of mega-curls or if it's more frizzy. Are your strands more like spirals and corkscrews or are they softer and more wave-like? Once you have these observations in place, you should be able to move on to the next step. Whether you're styling your strands for Prom or a day at the beach, there are lots of things you can do.

Before wearing your hair curly, there are two important things you must know. First, curly hair is often inconsistent and may not always behave. One day you might have perfect curls and then you may never be able to copy that look again. Luckily, you can make it look great even if it doesn't, always look the same. Second, curly hair needs moisture. Always avoid things that will dry out your hair such as bleach, hair dryers, and straightening and curling irons, and moisturize as much as possible. Use a moisturizing daily conditioner and use a deep conditioner every week. If the extra moisture makes your hair oily, concentrate the extra moisture away from your scalp where the oil is produced and closer to the older, dryer ends.

If your aim is something more stylish, you can use pomade or mousse to get the best results. Styling your hair in layers is very effective, it may take a little bit longer for you but it will have a good result based on the time you put into it. Styling by layers while applying pomade or mousse will create a layered effect on your hair. Do some small flips in your hair by doing this. It will create a natural effect on your hair style and it will make your look face younger.

People with curly looking hair may have unique styling problems, but you're also at an advantage. Many men and women would love to have naturally curly ones and spend hours with a curling iron or at the salon to try and achieve the look of natural curls. One of the most important things you can do for your hair is to use curly hair products that are designed specifically for your hair type. Specific shampoos, conditioners, and anti-frizz serums can be a huge benefit to your daily styling.

It is also important to remember when dealing with curly hair, that it is generally drier than straight hair. With that said, you will never want to dry your hair with a blow dryer, without a diffuser. This will flatten the curls, and usually leave a frizzy, unmanageable look. Ideally, curly hair should have a small amount of leave in conditioner, or styling product added, and dried naturally. If possible, the best way to dry it is in the natural sunlight.

Here's a hint for people with curly hair, which tends to be dry. You will notice on your shampoo bottle, it says "lather, rinse, repeat". Understand, this instruction is not for you. You do not need to repeat the shampooing process. This will only strip your hair of any natural oils, making it drier. What you want to do instead is this. Lather, rinse, condition, condition again.

A dark, angry black might also be perfect, especially if you have light, fair skin and coloring. The contrast alone will be enough to show the world your message and get them to notice you.

You also want to cut your locks short, so that they are spiky and stick up. If you have very curly hair, you will need a lot of gel to keep it from getting out of control, while for someone whose locks are very straight, the same amount of gel will be perfect to achieve the look of sticking up all over in a purposeful, messy way.
