Things to do in Switzerland

Because Switzerland is a just a small country, its attractions are near each other and can be reached quite easily. Mountain resorts, lakes, forests, castles, museums, and ancient and modern architecture make this federal republic an excellent tourist destination. With its low crime rate, it is also very safe for tourists.

There are many small mountain towns that have lots of shopping for gifts and genuine Swiss treasures. If you like to hike, there are plenty of hiking trails that will take you on a scenic journey. When you get to the top of the mountain you can make your way back while taking advantage of the slopes there by either skiing or snowboarding. 

Visit Bern's historical clock tower, a well-known landmark located in the nucleus of the city that dates back to the 12th century. From this tower the distance of all other things in Bern are measured. Take a tour of the inside of the famous historical tower and see the complicated mechanical working of the clock on display.

Another cool place to visit while in Lucerne is the Dying Lion of Lucerne Monument, in a small park, just off Lowenplatz. This famous carving is by Bertel Throvaldsen, picturing a dying lion, to commemorate the hundreds of Swiss Guards, which were killed at the Tuilleries Palace in Paris by the mobs during the French Revolution of 1792

Murren is truly a picturesque sight to see. Located on a high cliff in Lauterbrunnen Valley over 5,400 ft. in the air, this mountain village can only be reached by cable car. With some of the best hiking and sledding trails in all of Switzerland, you will not have a problem finding things to do when the snow isn't at it's best Summer Months.
Be sure to visit Basel, Switzerland's second largest city for the Fasnacht Spring carnival. Its world-famous three-day carnival features participants in colorful costumes and masks parading in the streets. The carnival starts on the Monday after Ash Wednesday, and cafes and bars are open all night as confetti, sweets, and flowers are thrown to the crowd.

Geneva is also a place with many head offices of major world organizations. Jet D'Eau is the absolute tallest fountain in the world that is a signature symbol of Geneva. Check out the Natural History Museum, Horology Museum and multiple cathedrals and rose gardens that will make you vacation in Geneva unforgettable.

Although there are many beautiful ski resorts in Switzerland, Zermatt stands out as one of the top Switzerland tourist attractions because it is located at the foot of the Matterhorn, the most famous peak of the Swiss Alps. Even if you're not into skiing, you can still enjoy the view while dining at a gourmet restaurant or shopping around the town.
