Tips to Cut Your Electricity Bills in Half

Would you like to cut your energy bill in half? Lowering your carbon foot print on the planet? There are many ways of achieving that goal especially if you are willing to throw thousands of dollars at the problem.

Stop using the dryer. Hang your clothes to dry outside. This might sound strange for cold-weather climates - but I've heard of people doing it - because when you compare the costs of a few extra pair of clothes to account for the extra long time needed to dry clothes in cold weather with the monthly regular cost of a dryer - the former wins.

You can build your solar panels and design them which ever way you want them. The best place to put your solar system is on the roof as this is the best spot to receive the sun's energy. However, the backyard is also a great place to put it if you don't have enough space on the roof.

Unplug things like cell phone chargers, computers, video game consoles, and TV's when not in use. When these items are on standby they still use energy and generate heat. This alone counts for about 12-14 percent of your electric bill. The best thing you can do is to plug them into a power strip that can be turned off.

Buy electric appliances that are energy efficient. Older washing mashing and refrigerators are real electricity vampires. When it's time to change your TV or microwave, make sure you buy one that has energy preserving technology build into it.

Turn off kitchen, bath, and other exhaust fans within 20 minutes after you are done cooking or bathing; when replacing exhaust fans, consider installing high-efficiency, low-noise models.

Your water heater is one of the biggest portions of your electrical bill. By turning the temperature down to 120 degrees, you can reduce this part of your energy bill. There is no noticeable difference, and the water heater isn't something that you have to continually monitor. Switch it once, and you instantly save money
