Benefits of a Morning Workout

Some theories try to show that a morning workout on an empty stomach will increase your metabolic rate all day long and some theories recommend eating a small amount of carbohydrates prior to a workout.

Exercise in the morning provides a wide range of benefits that offer physical and mental gratification. Performing strength training exercises in the morning can boost metabolism for up to 48 hours so doing your workout as soon as you hop out of bed is a great way to jumpstart your day.

If you are working on building muscle, you can really do this at any time, but there is an added bonus to doing it in the morning. Once you complete your exercise, the body is still "working" for hours later, and as muscle is active tissue, the more muscle you have the more calories you burn throughout the day.

Exercising in the morning helps to instill a sense of discipline in a person. Once you have set an exercise schedule for yourself and you sincerely abide by it, you will automatically feel good about yourself. This gives a boost to your energy level. Your mental alertness also increases with increased energy levels.

Proper morning stretching promotes muscle and joint flexibility, stimulates the senses, and prepares for physical activity of the day. Approximately ten minutes of stretching each morning will improve physical health over the lifetime.

The air is most fresh in the early morning, pollution and traffic are less predominant. This usually triggers for most people a sense of relief, relaxation and a strong head to take on the rest of the day.
