Foods that Can Help Lower Cholesterol

Cholesterol reducing diets does not mean liquid diets. You can be assured that there are actually numerous choices of food to eat for high cholesterol. But it is helpful to remember that a daily consumption of cholesterol is usually recommended at or below 100 milligrams per day.
Blueberries may help lower cholesterol as effectively as statin drugs! Berries, in general, help prevent oxidation of bad cholesterol and they are super abundant in antioxidants.

Nuts and garlic are some of the best foods to help drive down your cholesterol, so taking them in reasonable amount is highly recommended.

Legumes are low in fat, low in calories, and high in soluble fiber. Lentils are one of my favorite legumes because they require no pre-soaking, are very quick to cook, and taste great. Most people are familiar with green lentils but try the tiny red lentil variety too. They are the quickest cooking variety of lentil and are a delightful color.

Another way to help lower your cholesterol is to ensure you drink lots of water. Not only will the water help to keep you hydrate it may help to purge the extra cholesterol from your body together with other impurities. Moreover water helps to keep all your bodily capabilities working at maximum efficiency.

Honestly, there are quite a few foods that promote healthy cholesterol level either by reducing overall cholesterol, increasing good cholesterol (HDL) or reducing bad cholesterol (LDL). Let's look at some of these: salmon, mackerel, albacore tuna, skinless white meat chicken or turkey, soy, tofu, egg whites, canola oil, avocados, olive oil, vegetables, walnuts, almonds, pomegranates, oat bran, oat meal, apples, brown rice, beans, garlic, chocolate (sugar free), and margarine containing stanols and sterols.

Fish is another important food to add to your diet of low cholesterol foods. It has plenty of omega 3s in it as well as protein, which is helpful for lower triglyceride levels. Adding fish to your diet on a regular basis can help to raise good cholesterol levels and lower bad levels of cholesterol. Some of the best option are cold water fish, including trout, tuna, sardine, mackerel, and salmon.
