When you have just scoffed a grab bag of cheese and onion crisps, or are waking up after a night on the gin, it is fair to say that you expect your breath to be... well, a small bit rank.

However, what about when you have brushed, flossed, mouthwashed, and not eaten anything particularly potent (we are looking at you, garlic bread), and so are still finding your breath is not as minty, more malodorous?

Having a fantastic oral hygiene routine is obviously crucial if you would like to avoid halitosis, but it is not the only component that may play a part in the odor that comes out once you open your mouth. 1. YOU'RE DEHYDRATED

For some individuals, this is a sign of succeeding because they are expecting to get symptoms of halitosis when trying to eliminate weight, but that can actually put a great deal of strain on your kidneys because there's an excess of ketones."


3.SKIPPING MEALS

Fasting, or perhaps just not eating frequently, can also have a negative impact on the freshness of your breath.

It is not a reason to give it up, and you need to be able to combat this with a good oral hygiene regimen, but it's worth mentioning to the prescriber of your contraception if you find it sticks about or you have some other associated concerns.

"Cosmetic Dentistry created to increase oestrogen and/or progesterone levels in the body to prevent pregnancy can lead to dry mouth or post-nasal drip, increasing the odds of developing bad breath," says Dr Katz. 5.OVERWEIGHT

A study conducted in 2007 suggested that the more you weigh, the worse your breath is very likely to smell to others. At the moment, Professor Mel Rosenberg, who led the study at the time, confessed that he was unsure why this was, but the other comparable research conducted in 2013 pointed to the potential for an organism which resides in the gut of overweight people that gives off a distinctive (read: stinky) gas.

"Overweight individuals could be grazing on food over extended periods of time. The longer teeth are exposed to sugars and other carbohydrates, the more susceptible they become to developing oral issues that can result in bad breath."

6.CHEWING TOO MUCH GUM

A girl just can not win, right? You spend all the time and jaw effort chomping on a supersize wad of chewing gum, only for it to have the opposite effect - but gum, mints and co occasionally contain hidden sugars, which merely serve to feed the bacteria that's causing your bad breath in the first location.

"Ultimately, all the gum and mints in the world will not stop chronic halitosis and isn't a replacement for a robust oral hygiene routine," says Dr Katz. "Sucking mints or chewing gum does serve as a fantastic occasional short-term repair, but if they contain sugar then they may just eventually worsen the situation. Leaving sugar from the mouth for long periods of time may result in an accumulation of sticky plaque on the teeth. This also promotes the growth of germs and its effects may be worse than people of dry mouth in the long run."

Sugar-free goods can help to avoid this issue (though, as the package says, excessive consumption may lead to laxative effects, so you might end up with a whole other issue to be dealing with).
